At 5pm: Jonny Best presents Different From the Others
As part of Yorkshire Silent’s Film Festival, Jonny Best will be showing ‘Different from the Others’ whilst accompanying the silent movie with an original improvised score on the piano. ‘Different From the Others’ or ‘Anders als die Andern’ is a film about two male musicians who fall in love, but blackmail and scandal makes the affair take a tragic turn. The 1919 film was one of the first gay-themed films, burned by the Nazis and then stitched back together using sections recovered from archives across the world.
Yorkshire Silent Film Festival takes place each May in cinemas, theatres, arts centers, music and community centres around Yorkshire. The festival aims to celebrate and foster the art of silent film with live music accompaniment and to increase the opportunities for audiences in Yorkshire and the North to explore the art form.
We’ll break for tea at 6pm – enjoy food from Manjit’s Kitchen and refreshments from the HUB’s £1 bar with free tea and coffee.
7pm Falling In Love Again: A cabaret performance by Jonny Best and Jacqui Wicks
There has been a late change to the line up for our How To… Cabaret! due to unforeseen circumstances.
For our 7pm show we are delighted to announce that the excellent Jacqui Wicks will now present Gudrun’s Sisters with her musical partner Seonaid Matheson. We think that fans of cabaret will delight in their cut-throat honesty, glorious tunes and wicked laughs. They’ll lull you into a false sense of security with their dulcet tones; these sirens are singing songs of Murder, Adultery and Harlotry.
Please Note: When you visit our partners at Quay Tickets to reserve your seat, the page may still say you are booking for Falling In Love Again. Fear not, your reservation will be for Gudrun’s Sisters!
We hope you can make it!
