Slung Low’s How To Festival returns on Sunday 7th October 2018 at the HUB with a distinctly 80s / 90s party vibe. How to…Party will be a day of performance and activities to celebrate the way people get together to have a good time – eat, drink, rave, tell stories, share a magic moment or two…

As always at Slung Low’s HUB you pay what you decide. All are welcome and no previous experience is needed to take part in the workshops.

There is very limited capacity for some of the Festival events so make sure you book your places on the individual workshops in advance using the links below.

Here’s what’s on offer…

At 11am How To… Cook Indian vegetarian food with Manjit’s Kitchen
Discover how to cook delicious vegetarian street food based on traditional south Indian dishes with Leeds’ very own Manjit’s Kitchen. Manjit and her team, who recently won a BBC Food and Farming Award, will guide you step-by-step through the recipes as you learn how to make tasty curries, chutneys and more. All equipment and ingredients are provided.

2 – 3pm How To… Rave Like Rash Dash
Rash Dash is a multi-award winning theatre company who specialise in music and dance. Rash Dash Artistic Director Helen Goalen will lead you through a dance routine in this fun and inclusive workshop for all ages.

From 2pm Magic with Michael Wolf
Enjoy up-close illusions performed by magician Michael Wolf, who will be moving through our spaces throughout the afternoon. Simply drop in – you don’t need to book in advance.

3.30 – 4.30pm Adventures in the Dragonlands of Theatre
A talk from actor and theatre artist Oliver Senton about the communal nature of theatre and how we all share it and create it together. Oliver has worked with the KLF, theatre maverick Ken Campbell, bardic improvisers The School of Night and played Captain Ahab on a floating platform on Leeds canal. He will share tales of all of these adventures and more.

At 5.00pm Back to the Hoopture

An interactive, workshop-style hula hooping show for all ages. Join us as we go back in time, visiting different cultures and time periods and learning hands on how they used hula hoops in their own unique ways. You will be led by Miss Hoopdedoo, a ‘hoopologist’, on a journey of knowledge, physical fitness and fun.

From 6.00pm – Enjoy a delicious dinner from Manjit’s Kitchen with additional refreshments from the HUB’s £1 bar and free tea and coffee.

At 7.00pm We Are Ian by In Bed With My Brother

1989. Manchester. The year that everything changed from black and white into crazy technicolour. A frenzy of drugs, beats and bucket hats. Illegal raves. Acid parties. Just jumping up and down in a field and throwing two fingers to Thatcher… Remember it?

“Part dance party, part political theatre, all loving tribute to acid house… It’s an extraordinary night out”
