SOLEDAD & BETTO – Speak Woman Speak

Speak Woman Speak is an all female Leeds based theatre company. They make devised work highlighting hidden stories about women from diverse backgrounds.

Speak Woman Speak presents the last stage of their work in progress piece ‘SOLEDAD & BETTO’ – An interlinked drama telling the stories of two different women, from two different countries and times, but have more in common than you think.

‘Soledad’ is a story is based on a real event that happened during the reign of Franco’s dictatorship, the ‘stolen babies’ (los niños robados) a trafficking of babies.

‘Betto’ is inspired by the true story of Betto Douglas, an enslaved mother who ran a one woman revolt that took place in St Kitts, a small island in the Caribbean, in the 1800s.

Speak woman Speak are investigating these journeys, revisiting the past in order to heal in the present.

Tickets will be “Pay What You Decide” which means you will pay the company AFTER the show.
