Camelot: The Shining City

In 2015 an army of 137 performers from the Sheffield People’s Theatre performed James Phillips’ contemporary reworking of the King Arthur myths.

Set  a little in a future Camelot: The Shining City was the story of Bear, a young orphan who leads a revolution to become England’s new Queen before the revolution overtakes even her.

Performed in the Crucible theatre and out in to the city Camelot played nightly to sell-out audiences of 600. The show sprawled out into the city’s public squares bring pageantry, sword fighting and gun play and even a flame throwing tank to the streets of Sheffield.

Camelot: The Shining City was a co-production with Sheffield Theatres.

Written by James Phillips. Directed by Alan Lane. Designed by David Farley. Movement by Lucy Hind. Music by Heather Fenoughty. Sound by Matt Angove. Lighting by Gary Longfield. Pyrotechnics by External Combustion. Stage Manager: Sarah Gentle.
